Celebrating Diversity and Creativity: The 2024 NC Artists Invitational
The 2024 NC Artists Invitational, a celebrated tradition alternating with the bi-annual quilting exhibition, brought together a vibrant mix of emerging and established BIPOC artists from across North Carolina. Held every other year, this exhibition continues to showcase the remarkable talent of artists living in the state, with artwork created within the last three years.
A Legacy of Artistic Excellence
The Invitational has its roots in the "Home Grown" series, which began in the 1980s at the "Little House" in Winston-Salem. The first event featured four African American artists, laying the foundation for a powerful platform that has grown and evolved over time. Today, the NC Artists Invitational continues to honor this legacy while embracing a broader range of artistic expression from the BIPOC community.
A Diverse Showcase of Talent
This year's exhibition featured 19 talented artists from the southeastern region of North Carolina, offering a beautiful blend of new voices and seasoned professionals. For many of the artists, it was their first exhibition, while others have been long-time participants in the Invitational. This diversity of experience enriched the show, creating an exciting dialogue between fresh perspectives and established artistic traditions.
The exhibition featured a stunning array of work across seven different mediums, including Mixed Media, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Glass, and Fabric. Each piece told a unique story, reflecting the diverse backgrounds, influences, and artistic visions of the creators. The variety of styles and techniques on display created a dynamic atmosphere, with each work offering something new for attendees to explore and appreciate.
A Celebration of Creativity and Culture
The NC Artists Invitational is more than just an exhibition; it is a celebration of the creative spirit and cultural richness that exists within North Carolina's BIPOC communities. It provides a platform for these artists to share their stories, express their identities, and connect with an audience that values the power of art to inspire, challenge, and unify.
As always, the Invitational represents the ongoing commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity in the arts. By showcasing both emerging talent and well-established artists, the event ensures that the voices of BIPOC artists are heard and celebrated for years to come.
Looking Ahead
With its rich history and commitment to supporting North Carolina's artistic community, the NC Artists Invitational continues to be a vital part of the state's cultural landscape. As the tradition grows, so too does the opportunity for BIPOC artists to share their work with a broader audience, ensuring that this platform remains an essential part of the region’s art scene.
We look forward to the next chapter in this remarkable tradition and to the continued success of artists who inspire us all with their creativity and vision.
